Day 4 -Top of the afternoon to you

Sunday

The last day of meetings and effectively my last day as well. More motions were passed, brainstorming sessions held and committees created and appointed. In the end we finished more or less on schedule about 3-30. By 4 we were in buses heading for the city again.

This time we went to the cable car station and took a ride to the top of the hill over looking the city. There is a French fort there which is now a museum of the 1991/92 war as well as a Cross (and a mobile phone tower).

The other side of the hill had views of the mountains which, I was told, were in Bosnia. The views of the sea, islands and the city were magnification and many photos were taken.

By about 5 we were heading back down the mountain. Because of the numbers, we had 2 buses and 2 guides but took 3 trips on the cable car to fit us all in. While our group were waiting for the last few to come down one of the Japanese jumped off a wall in front of the cable car station for a photo, landed badly and hurt his ankle. It looked serious enough for the guide to call a taxi and send him to emergency, where the Croatian chairman would meet him to help sort things out.

The rest of us walked down the hill to the old city again, entering from a third gate this time. We covered much of the same areas I'd seen on Wednesday plus more of the harbour. The guide gave us info on the buildings and history which I didn't have then.

We finished some time after 6 and broke into groups and found places to eat. My little group finished at a pizza place. We took the 7-30 bus back to the hotel where I have been packing ready to leave early tomorrow. Just need to throw in the clothes I'm wearing and the bathroom stuff and zip it up.

My ride to the airport leaves at 5-30 for a 7-30 flight to Frankfurt. I know of at least 4 others on the same flight. We are not the first to go with a few catching the 6-30 flight to Zagreb.

Now that I'm more or less organised I will be heading for the Helsinki party, the unofficial last party of the meeting. The name stems from the place where it was first held and the idea is to drink up all you duty free before you leave. It will be a toss up whether I try to get any sleep or just stay up all night.
