Day 3 - We make galas of ourselves

Saturday

Another day of meetings, with some controversy of budgets, presentations on the web development, the bid for next year from Calgary, the new journal format and several others. WE didn't get through the whole of the planned agenda but still finished early enough to get ready for the Gala dinner.

In between a few of few had a couple of drinks with Millie from Canada, who was having her birthday. The local organiser had sent a small (but addictive) cake and a bottle of wine to her room.

Originally, we were going to have a boat ride to the dinner, but the water was a bit rough so we went all the way on the buses. They took us to a lookout to see the lights but it was difficult to get a good shot without a tripod. We were still too early when we arri8ved, so we did another loop through the narrow one-way streets to kill some time.

The dinner was in Fort Revelin in the old city. They had an interesting idea and had 4 buffet tables, with 4 different cuisines on offer. There was a welcome drink but I didn't like the Grappa, even mixed with OJ.

We had a good time and were entertained by folk dancers singers and a girl in leather playing an electric cello (a la the group Bond).

We left at 11 although we were able to stay to midnight and catch a second bus. The venue became a disco at 11 but we had the VIP area if we wanted. A group of us went back to Millie's room for further drinks and the see out her birthday. In the end I was falling asleep so headed for my own room sometime after 1.
